Instructions:  Give the student the sentences in the second column (Sentences to be Corrected).  Students write corrected sentences and turn them in to the teacher to be checked.

Assessment can be made on three levels in Daily Grammar Sentences:
        1. Did the student recognize the mistake?
        2. Can they fix it?
        3. Can they produce a sentence using that grammar point in free speech?


Activity

When I Was Little
Type of Activity:  Independent
Materials Needed:  Cassette tape and recorder
Directions for student:

Make a tape describing yourself when you were younger.  Include things you were and things you were not.  For example:  I was small.  I was not very noisy.  Next, when you go home, ask your mom or dad about how they were when they were little.  Make another tape telling what they were like.
Assessment:   Through teacher observation, based on the quality of sentences produced.




Grammar Explanation
While it is entirely possible to include the auxiliary be with the rest of the past tense verbs, it is different enough that teachers might want to treat is separately. was is used for both first and third person singular, while were is used for the rest.
